Swiss Secrets of Legacy with Ben Ulrich, Dan Kertesz & Maxim Jardai
What are the unique pressures facing today’s affluent families, where complexity—not lack of resources—is the true adversary? Rising wealth fragmentation, global mobility, and multi-jurisdictional assets have made succession planning more overwhelming than ever. Affluent individuals often find themselves isolated, unsure whom they can trust, and hesitant to discuss money, purpose, or legacy—even within their own families. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with guests Ben Ulrich, Dan Kertesz and Maxim Jardai to bring clarity to these challenges by bridging wealth, psychology, and human connection in a way that helps families design legacies—not just portfolios—that endure. Their insights reveal that legacy is no longer about assets alone; it’s about continual communication and cultivating emotional intelligence across generations. - Benjamin Ulrich is a Switzerland-based connector and relationship-builder whose purpose is to introduce Single Family Offices, Multi-Family Offices, and (U)HNW families to one another, guided by his credo: “Don’t be a dead-end. Always be introducing.” Rooted in deep intellectual curiosity and a personal passion for mental-health impact, he focuses on convening thoughtful conversations, catalyzing purpose-driven investments, and supporting leaders, families, and investors in unlocking both human and ecological flourishing. Daniel Kertesz is a Switzerland-based family business advisor known for helping affluent families navigate succession, communication, and the emotional dynamics that shape long-term continuity. With a grounded, strategic approach, he guides clients in preserving both their wealth and their relationships so their legacy thrives across generations. Maxim Jardai is a Switzerland-based advisor and attorney known for blending strategic legal insight with practical, values-driven guidance for families and entrepreneurs. His dual training allows him to bridge complex legal structures with human-centered advisory work, helping clients make clear, informed decisions that align with their long-term vision. - Since 2014, Angelina Carleton has advised and coached individuals in over 1,000+ sessions with their holistic legacy plans. You Don't Have To Be Rambo For Your Legacy with Simon Holzapfel
Most individuals and families want to pass on more than money, but legacy is slow food for the soul — it requires intention, preparation, and steady nourishment. Like sex education class, talking about your legacy can be awkward — but avoiding the discomfort only guarantees confusion later. In this episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Simon Holzapfel of CrowBox Partners to reveal why you can’t build on chaos, and why individuals and families must first create emotional order before they can create generational continuity. He explains how legacy isn’t a single event but how it happens one conversation at a time, especially when those conversations feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Simon offers tools to practice fighting fires, so all parties at the table learn to manage tension, conflict, and responsibility long before a crisis arrives. Ultimately, he reminds us that legacy may invite awkwardness, but it also invites transformation — and that’s where lasting stewardship truly begins! - Simon Holzapfel is the Co-Founder of Crow Box Partners, where he specializes in preparing next-generation heirs to become capable stewards of their family’s human, intellectual, and financial capital. Known for his Triple Balance Sheet™ framework, he helps HNW and UHNW families strengthen governance, purpose, and continuity so their legacy endures far beyond wealth transfer. Beyond Words: Maria Gallucci on Communication and Legacy
Few agents, lenders, or brokers can communicate in sign language, forcing reliance on interpreters who may not always be provided. On top of that, closing documents are full of legal jargon. Without clear, accessible communication, deaf/HoH clients risk signing documents they don’t fully understand. In some scenarios, interpreters aren’t offered at all, or those provided aren’t trained in legal terminology as to their qualifications. The process is often rushed. Without accommodations like interpreters, CART captioning, or written explanations, the deaf and HOH can feel pressured to sign quickly without clarity. Then, there are side conversations between lenders, agents, and attorneys who may exclude the deaf/HoH client(s), undermining their participation and trust. With AI today, many e-signature platforms, remote notary systems, and lender portals aren’t designed with accessibility in mind (limited captioning, no video relay integration, etc.). Or worse, some professionals may see accommodations as an “inconvenience” rather than a right, creating friction and distrust at the table, in their lack of empathy. In this episode, Angelina Carleton speaks with Maria Gallucci about growing up with two deaf parents and helping them buy their first home at age 12. As a CODA (child of a deaf adult), Maria learned the weight that the deaf and HOH (hard of hearing) carry as well as how to read facial expressions, body language, lips from a distance and a room. Tune in to hear how Maria’s experiences are changing the residential real estate industry and how you too can bridge the gap between the deaf/HOH with the hearing communities. Plus, how Maria’s core values not only feed her soul but her legacy plan as well! - Maria serves on boards for Rocky Mountain Deaf School, DOVE, and Colorado Association of the Deaf. Her motto "just try" reflects her belief that meaningful connection starts with one small step. Her debut book Raised in Silence is both a love letter to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing community and a guide for bridging communication gaps. Getting Your Legacy Into Alignment with Kathleen Quinn
If you do not believe you are enough, you will never believe you have enough. Or are doing enough. So then how do you get to your mindset of abundance in order to discover ‘what matters most’? The challenge is not just getting your paperwork in order —it’s about aligning decisions for how you would like to contribute to the world when feeling worthy and whole. Especially when there’s unresolved grief that lives in your body or fear that shows up in ‘scarcity conversations’. Without alignment, people often delay or avoid the most vulnerable conversations, leaving others with uncertainty or nothing. In this podcast episode, hostess Angelina Carleton speaks with Kathleen Quinn, an accomplished author and advisor, who has devoted her career to helping others design their giving while at Stanford University. She believes your values are the real drivers ... especially when you can feel grounded, free and fulfilled. Tune in to hear how she asks the key question of “does this align with the world I want to create?” in rewriting beliefs at any stage or year of your life. Learn how your values demand your visibility and how buffalo run right through storms compared to pushing their feelings down. - Kathleen Quinn is a mindset coach and certified Grief Educator—whose 30+ years as a Stanford philanthropy leader inform her relational and values-focused perspective on wealth. She specializes in guiding clients to align their financial decisions—not just with outcomes, but with their core values and desired legacy. She not only speaks into how fear and grief can live into our bodies but also about how boundaries can serve as your wealth compass to align with what matters most. How do you use your core values as filters for financial decisions, investments, and charitable giving? How do you set values-aligned boundaries around requests and expectations regarding money? How do you recognize that our most treasured relationships deserve boundaries around time, energy, and emotional investment? Kathleen’s work aligns beautifully with the subject of legacy planning as legacy is more than what we leave behind—it’s how we live now. Her approach offers both intention and strategy for anyone ready to design a legacy that’s authentic, grounded, and deeply meaningful. How Your Luxury Handbag Can End Human Trafficking with Jared Lilje
What if the handbag you carried made a difference? In today's world of high end Hermes, Gucci and other iconic brands, carrying a luxury handbag—especially one crafted with purpose, like a J. Christophe—is not just about style. It's about starting new conversations, specifically related to 'ending human trafficking' - it's more than embodying a higher standard, social worth, and influence. It's about raising awareness for the 50+ million victims trafficked each year. In this episode of the "Design Your Legacy" podcast, I sit down with Jared Lilje, the founder and creative force behind luxury brand 'J. Christophe' to explore how the luxury industry can make a positive difference in what it is we chose to stand for. This isn’t fast fashion. It’s luxury for women who want to give back in their own legacies in how they shape culture and society through what they support. Shop now at https://store.jchristoph.com/products-list. - Jared Lilje is not your typical fashion entrepreneur. After serving as a decorated U.S. Air Force Special Operations pilot with over 7,000 flight hours, Jared took a bold leap—from military missions to mission-driven luxury. Today, he’s the founder of J.Christoph, a handcrafted luxury handbag brand with a powerful social purpose: to raise awareness and funding in the fight against human trafficking. Witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of trafficking during his global deployments, Jared became deeply aware of how underfunded and overlooked anti-trafficking efforts are. Rather than stand on the sidelines, he chose to take a stand—with elegance. J.Christoph fuses old-world craftsmanship, exclusivity, and meaning. Every bag is made in the USA and serves as a conversation piece for change. Through partnerships with vetted organizations, a portion of each purchase directly supports rescue and rehabilitation initiatives for trafficking survivors. Jared’s story offers a fresh voice in the luxury space—one that marries masculine leadership with mission, purpose with precision, and elegance with empathy. Now also a commercial airline pilot, Jared continues to navigate high-pressure environments while leading a brand that proves impact can be beautiful. - Since 2014, Angelina Carleton has advised and coached individuals in over 1,000+ sessions with their holistic legacy plans.
