Beginnings get me inspired. There’s a connection to the best of humanity in what awaits, whether it’s evolution of a belief system in what’s possible, the first stages of a client naming their values for the first time, or a brand-new open door with people who share the same passion around designing their legacy.

This winter season at Legacy Planning©, we’re reflecting on both new chapters as well as conclusions in the value both bring in the cycle of growth and transformation. So as we brought in the new year of 2023, we were intent in merging the best of legacy designed experiences with your holiday season – intentionally and proactively – seeking permission to do new things and be new values where and how it was needed most.

It may seem countercultural, maybe even a tad radical, to hint at creating new rituals in what is typically a traditional time of year. But I’ve come to realize that it’s often in the courageous and altruistic moments that we’re most able to connect with others and feel that our lives have a sense of meaning. And it’s in the bravery to ask new questions or allow curiosity to led the way that we can clearly hear what matters the most to us and those around us in this human experience.

The concept of appreciating a season of reflection, in terms of endings, may make some of us self-conscious. It’s become almost methodical in today’s culture to only look ahead, in chasing the next opportunity or thing, without taking an equal amount of time to review the course of the journey. The new insights in how we’ve grown. But only when we are willing to take an inventory can we appreciate how we’ve risen to new occasions and the amount of effort we invested each day. We invite you to make the space, and see the value, in peering into your past year with eyes of gratitude for how you showed up – an ode to the good decisions you’ve made and who you became because of it.

A commitment of review will be different for each individual. For some, it can include conversations with trusted advisors and friends to talk through the blindspots and moments. For others, it might be quiet solitude to review past calendar pages and appointments to also remember those who showed up to make new breakthroughs happen. Perhaps a new positive role model showed you how to turn a tragedy into their legacy.

In honoring our needs and wants, there’s comfort to be found in what’s familiar as well as what’s new this season. Our podcast lends itself to remind you that you are not alone in your adventure of personal agency. You’ll find a few you can relate to in the shared human experience of the circle of life.

This last season might have tested your moral fortitude to weather new storms. Ones you’ve never anticipated. I hope you’ll set aside any focus on stress for the moment. Leave some of the emails unanswered for tomorrow, the hustle to keep up … on the shelf. Let us name aloud the limiting belief our legacy’s worth is only financial, to those we love and those we can influence. Instead, may we see how far we’ve come … in the value of the ending of winter, to see all the gifts we brought, and to acknowledge there is merit in continually showing up to design our legacy.

Best regards,

Angelina
